Guyana’s gold production is set to surpass 600,000 ounces, according to Minister of Natural Resources, Raphael Trotman. This came out of a presentation by the minister during the debate on President David Granger’s speech at the opening of the 44th Sitting of the National Assembly, GINA said.
According to Minister Trotman, the industry is on track to surpass the initial target of 550,000 ounces. He declared: “Gold for example in 2014 under the previous administration… 385,000 ounces. In 2015 we took it to 456,000 and in this year, we will take it to over 600,000 that is our promise.”
He explained that the majority of the production is driven by the efforts of small miners. “That target will be met by the average small man and woman involved in mining and supplemented by the larger companies and we are grateful to them,” Trotman explained.
The remainder of the production thus far has been contributed by two of the large gold companies, Guyana Gold Fields and Troy Mining Resources. The amount produced by the two was reported to be 125,065.32 ounces and 58,750.7 respectively.
A total of 545,742 ounces of gold has been declared thus far up to the end of October.
