The 19-year-old female who was busted with 17.1 kilograms of ganja hidden under her bed in her Tucville, Georgetown home was on Tuesday arraigned and remanded to prison.
Anasia McAllister of Perry Street, Tucville, Georgetown, appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts where she was slapped with a possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking charge.
During her appearance, she pleaded not guilty to the charge and was remanded to prison until April 19, 2022.
It was reported that on Saturday last, ranks attached to the Police Narcotics Branch went to the home of the suspect, who is a marketing clerk, and conducted a search on her premises. This was after the Police received credible information.
However, during the search, detectives found two brown boxes under her bed containing several rectangular brown duct-taped parcels.
Upon examination, a quantity of cannabis sativa was found in the parcels. She was told of the offence committed, arrested, and escorted to Narcotics Branch along with the ganja.
The narcotic was weighed in her presence and amounted to 37.70 pounds or 17.1 kilograms. Charges were later instituted against the teenager.
