[www.inewsguyana.com] – A 14 – year – old girl who resides on the West Bank of Demerara is reportedly being treated for a Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD) after she was reportedly raped by an officer of the Guyana Police Force.

iNews understands that the Police Officer, who operates under the Tactical Services Unit (TSU) and was stationed in the Police ‘D ‘Division was first placed under close arrest and following the expiration of the 72 hours detention period, he has since been placed on open arrest and is being held at the Police Headquarters, Eve Leary.

The Child Care and Protection Agency (CC&PA) confirmed that they are investigating a report of rape of a 14 – year – old girl by a police officer. Director of the Agency, Ann Green said the department has not yet taken the child into its care.

Sources close to the case told iNews that the child admitted to having an intimate and sexual relationship with the Police Officer and has since displayed reluctance in offering any evidence against him.

The report however is still being investigated given the fact that the 14 – year – old is below the age of consent and the sexual acts between herself and the cop amounts to statutory rape as defined by the Sexual Offences Acts of 2010.

Crime Chief, Leslie James also confirmed that the matter is engaging the attention of the Guyana Police Force.
