Georgetown leg of ‘Guinness in the Street’ launched

[www.inewsguyana.com] – Footballers from across Georgetown will be lining up for the seventh edition of the Guinness in the Street tournament which was launched on Monday, November 17.

Under the theme; “who will be made of more”, Guinness Brand Manager, Lee Baptiste was pleased to partner with the Petra Organisation for the event.

The first place team will win, $400,000 while second, third and fourth will receive $200,000, $150,000 and $75,000 respectively.

“I think with persons realizing the type of exposure you are getting from the Caribbean championships it caused the more teams to participate which is great and our satisfaction comes from watching these guys achieve at the Caribbean level,” Baptiste stated.

Troy Mendonca of the Petra Organisation identified the format of the tournament while noting his pleasure of being a part of the tournament again.

In addition, the individual skill competition will also be back for the second time in the tournament for persons in or out of the competition with first place prize money of $20,000.

The tournament will be a round robbing knockout, with the top two teams going through to the knockout stages.

Mendonca noted that the tournament had 51 entrants as they had to play two preliminary rounds in order to reach their final 32 teams.

Games will begin from 19:00h each night staring form this weekend.
