[www.inewsguyana.com] – The Georgetown International Academy (GIA) on Saturday December 06 will host its fourth annual Christmas blood drive at the National Blood Transfusion Service (NBTS) office in East & Lamaha Streets, Georgetown.
According to President of the Parent Teacher’s Organization (PTO), Mrs. Kamini Persaud, the initiative is one that was undertaken by the students and the school as she stressed the fact that one unit of blood can save three lives.
Mrs. Persaud explained that she strongly believes in giving blood after the need arose for a family member. She also noted that persons who are unable to donate blood at tomorrow’s drive can do so at any time that is suitable for them at the NBST.
Mrs. Persaud also spoke of the increase need for blood around the holiday season as there is an increase in accidents and in some cases there is a shortage of blood.
Giving blood takes 3-10 minutes and the health benefits include reduced risk of heart disease and cancer among others.
The School is appealing to persons to support the initiative and join in saving lives. Interested persons can call telephone number 226-1595.
