The Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) is advertising for a new Chief Elections Officer (CEO), to fill the vacancy created by Goocool Boodoo’s departure.
The advert, which was placed on the GECOM website on August 14 and in the local newspapers on August 15 is available to potential CEOs in Guyana, the Caribbean region and further afield.
Meanwhile, there are reports circulating to the effect that the GECOM Chairman and opposition commissioners are in favour of the acting CEO Calvin Benn’s appointment as the substantive CEO.
However, a credible source on the Commission has debunked this as rumours adding that this could be no farther from the truth.
In reply to our question about applications, the GECOM official said the acting CEO Calvin Benn and the acting deputy CEO Keith Lowenfield all have the right, like any other potential candidate to apply for the job.
And this right is also extended to persons outside of Guyana.
The application will all be received by the Chairman, Dr. Steve Surujbally, after which the commissioners and chairman will review them and shortlist those for interviews, after which they will decide on who gets the job. The closing date of applications is September 30, 2013.
