[www.inewsguyana.com] – The Guyana Energy Agency (GEA) says that it has recorded a 29% increase in the amount of illegal fuel that was intercepted in 2014 when compared to that of 2013.
In a newsletter from the Ministry of Home Affairs it is reported that in 2013, two thousand, nine hundred and thirty one (2,931) UK gallons of fuel was seized while in 2014, three thousand, seven hundred and eighty five (3,785) UK gallons was seized.
It was also noted that during the year 2014, seventeen (17) new charges were filed by the GEA compared with nine (9) in 2013.This represented an increase in prosecutions of 89% in 2014 over that in 2013.
The Energy agency’s mandate includes but is not limited to advising and making recommendations to the Minister regarding measures necessary to secure the efficient management and source of energy.
