[www.inewsguyana.com] – Bandits have again pounced on Andrews Supermarket located in South Ruimveldt; shooting an off duty member of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) during the attack.
According to a police release, at about 21:10 hrs on Saturday October 03, four men armed with handguns entered the Andrew’s Supermarket at Aubrey Barker Street.
Police stated that the men held up the proprietor ,39-year-old Saikque Andrews, and took away his jewellery and cell phone.
The perpetrators discharged rounds as they escaped, one of which struck Sayne George, a member of the Guyana Defence Force to his right foot.
He has been admitted to hospital and police investigations into this incident are in progress.
In January, three men had stormed the supermarket and escaped with a quantity of cash after terrorizing customers.
Why have the proprietors of this establishment not been issued with a firearm license? This should be expedited since it is not the first time they have been victims of armed robbers, and are located very far from the Police protection.
