[www.inewsguyana.com] – Not even second place was good enough to earn swimmer, Hannibal Gaskin a spot in the next round when the Youth Olympics continued on Wednesday in Nanjing, China.
Gaskin finished second in his heat with a time of 28.11s which was not good enough to qualify for the second round of the boy’s 50 metres butterfly.
Meanwhile, South American Youth bronze medalist, Jason Yaw was unable to qualify for the ‘A’ standard final after returning a sub-par performance in the boy’s 400 metres semifinal of 49.41s.
Yaw is capable of running faster, an attest to his personal record of 47.43s but will now contest the ‘B’ standard final on August 23.
Overall, the Youth Olympic team has had a rough venture thus far and might very well return without any hardware from the event.
