[www.inewsguyana.com] – Cabinet Secretary Dr. Roger Luncheon says the government intends to use the full force of the law to restore normalcy to the Georgetown Mayor and City Council.
According to Dr. Luncheon the administration has paid specific attention to the acts of interference by the Mayor Hamilton Green and his acolytes in the execution of Town Clerk Carol Sooba’s duties.
He said the recent actions by the Mayor expose him to much contempt while citing the Court ruling by Chief Justice Ian Chang which deemed Royston King’s appointment as Town Clerk by Green to be unlawful.
The government insists that Carol Sooba carry out the duties as Town Clerk even though the CJ also squashed her appointment. His ruling has since been appealed.
The Mayor and some Councillors believe Sooba is unqualified for the post of Town Clerk and should resign.
Sooba maintains that she is competent and with the support of the government, has stood her ground.
This differing stance and unrelenting stance on the issue has seen intense drama unfolded at City Hall over the last month.
this issues is deeply troubling! it begs the question, why has the Government over-reached its constitutional right and rejected the judicial ruling of chief justice Ian chang, which removed Sooba from town clerk position?
