Two drivers are said to be critical following a three-vehicle collision on the Friendship Public Road, East Bank Demerara on Saturday evening.
The drivers were initially rushed to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre before subsequently being transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPHC).
The names of these two individuals have not been released to the media, but hospital officials have confirmed that they have sustained severe head injuries and lacerations to their bodies.
The accident occurred around 18:30h when a Toyota pickup, PLL 7337, was reportedly heading to Timehri while Toyota Carina wagon PLL 2247, carrying several occupants was heading to the city at a fast rate, and reportedly came into contact with the rear wheel of the pickup, thus causing the driver to lose control of that vehicle.
The result of that mishap was that the pickup reportedly spun several times before coming to a halt facing the opposite direction, while the wagon collided head-on with Toyota Allion, PWW 6374.
Public-spirited citizens pulled the drivers of the two cars from the wreckage and rushed them to the Diamond medical facility, while the driver of the pickup was placed in custody.
At least three other persons who were injured were treated there and sent away.
Police are continuing their investigations into this accident.
