Two nationals from French Guiana were remanded to prison by Magistrate Clive Nurse last week after they were charged for unlawfully assaulting each other.
They are Ashley Mansfield, 21, and Dima Gordon, 23, both of Cayenne, French Guiana and Amelia’s Ward, Mackenzie, Linden. They both appeared at the Linden Magistrate’s Court to answer to the charges.
The Prosecution informed the court that Mansfield wounded Gordon to his left hand with a knife on February 2 at about 13:20hrs at Central Amelia’s Ward.
As a result of the injuries he was examined by a doctor at the Linden Hospital Complex (LHC) and a medical certificate issued.
Magistrate Nurse, after hearing the facts presented by the Prosecution, ordered a probation report. When asked by Magistrate Nurse if she knew that her actions could result in jail time, Mansfield whom the court heard is presently unemployed, responded in the positive.
The matter was adjourned to March 16.
Meanwhile, Gordon was counter-charged with assaulting Mansfield at the same place and date, to which he pleaded not guilty.
Gordon will make his next court appearance on February 9.
