A foreign currency dealer who was in the vicinity of Popeye’s on Water Street, Georgetown was on Sunday robbed of all of his cash by an armed bandit.
According to reports received, 36-year-old, Bishwanauth Noudat of Lot 482 ‘C’ Field Sophia, was sitting in a chair with approximately, $150,000 GYD, US$1200, $3000TT, $1000 CDN, $90 EURO, $8000 EC, $200BDS and $31 REAS, when the perpetrator reportedly approached him from behind and snatched the cash which he was holding in his hand at the time.
Noudat reportedly attempted to retrieve the cash but the gunman whipped out his handgun which was in his waist and dealt the man a lash to his face.
The perpetrator then made good his escape South on Cornhill, then East along Hadfield Street.
The dealer reported the matter to the Police and was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) where he was treated and sent away.
The Police, this publication was informed, are currently reviewing CCTV footage which was in the area as investigations are ongoing.
