A duo was earlier today (Friday) jailed for 24 months each when they appeared before City Magistrate, Judy Latchman at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts charged for breaking and entering.
42-year old Mark Angus of New Amsterdam and 27-year-old Toby Singh of West Coast Demerara (WCD) accepted that they broke and entered the Paradise Hotel and stole cement and tools with a total value of $40,060 between January 3-4 2018.
According to Police Prosecutor, Gordon Mansfield, at around 17:00hrs on the day in question, the Virtual Complainant (VC), Leon Gorbedan secured his hotel, which was under construction and proceeded to his home.
However, upon his return the following day he found that the above mentioned items were missing. He subsequently went to the Brickdam Police Station to file a report but upon his arrival, he was shown the said missing items by Police which he identified as his property.
Angus and Singh had already been apprehended by Police with the said items in their possession.
In handing down the sentence, Latchman told the defendants that they need to work hard for what they want to achieve. She also revealed that considering the prevalence and seriousness of the offense, she will be sentencing them to 24 months each imprisonment.
