[www.inewsguyana.com] – A mid afternoon fire gutted a two storey building on East Street, Georgetown; leaving three persons homeless and causing millions of dollars in damage.
Information reaching iNews has confirmed that the fire started sometime around 15:00hrs and engulfed the entire top flat of the building.
iNews understands that three occupants reside in the home, however neither of them were at home at the time of the blaze.
One of the persons living in the home was at the scene of the fire, but was however reluctant to offer a comment.
Colin Sparman, an official from the Guyana Fire Service explained that a report was received sometime around 3:05.
Sparman said that the initial reports indicate that someone was trapped in the building, however, investigations thus far are yet to reveal any remains. He is confident that no one was trapped in the building.
He explained that immediately, three fire tenders along with an ambulance was dispatched to the scene of the fire.
The fire which lasted for just over 40 minutes destroyed the entire top flat of the home and charred several nearby buildings.
