[www.inewsguyana.com] – A fire of unknown origin completely destroyed a two-storey house at Lot 55 Block 33, La Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara last evening, April 06.
Those homeless have been identified as 38 – year – old businessman, Julian Craig, his wife Samantha Craig, a 37-year-old Probation Officer and their four children aged 15, 11, six and four.
According to neighbours, at approximately 19:30 hrs, the blaze started after electricity was returned, following a power outage and they immediately called the fire service; however, firefighters arrived when the building was completely engulfed in flames.
The neighbours noted that no one was at home in the four bedroom house at the time of the fire. Meanwhile, the Probation Officer said she and her family was in Georgetown to participate in the Easter activities when she received the dreadful telephone call.
Additionally, the businessman said that he has lost millions of dollars in the fire, pointing out that there were pieces of dredging machinery in the house at the time.
According to the neighbours, the community had experienced two periods of blackout yesterday and it was soon after power was restored the second time that they noticed the Craig’s house on fire.
