[www.inewsguyana.com] – Thirty-eight-year-old Tamika Williams of Sulfur Road, Backdam, Cuyuni, Mazaruni is accused of possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking. She  made her first court appearance today before Magistrate Ann McLennan to answer to the offence.

It is alleged that Williams on October 13, 2015 at Sulfur Road Backdam had in her possession 58 grams of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking. Williams pleaded not guilty to the offence after it was read to her.

The Attorney for the accused explained to the court that his client who works as a cook at a mining Camp at Sulfur Road, Backdam, is married and does not have any prior brushes with the law. He asked for reasonable bail for Williams which was denied.

However, the Prosecution, who objected to bail, expressed that police ranks on patrol with an ATV went to the camp/shop of the accused and requested to conduct a search.

A search of the bedroom quarters revealed a plastic bag taped onto a bed netting containing what appeared to be leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis. Further testing proved the items to be 58 grammes of cannabis.

Tamika Williams was then remanded to prison and is schedule to make her next court appearance on October 29.
