[www.inewsguyana.com] – Several persons have been arrested in connection with the discovery of a M15 Rifle and a quantity .223 rounds of ammunition.
iNews understands that the items were found by a police patrol on Wednesday February 11 in a car, which was parked on Sussex and Saffon Street.
Police currently have six males in custody which includes a father and his two teenage sons.
Police sources told iNews that the 16 – year – old and 19- year- old boys are the sons of a 45 – year – old man, who claimed ownership of the unlicensed weapon.
The men told the police that they are miners and bought the weapon to engage in hunting activities whenever they are in the interior. The discovery was made after police received an anonymous tip.
iNews understands that ballistics tests will be conducted on the weapon to ascertain if it was used in the commissioning of any crime. The men are to remain in police custody, while the Force is awaiting the advice of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
Within the last few months the police have been reporting the seizure of illegal weapons and ammunition found in the possession of persons either at their homes, in their vehicles or on their person.
