[www.inewsguyana.com] – A Fish vendor, who was allegedly caught attempting to steal a truck battery from BK International, was placed on $75,000 bail by Magistrate Fabayo Azore on Monday, June 15.
Randolph Thompson of Albouystown, Georgetown, pleaded not guilty to the charge, which alleged that on June 12 at Mandela Avenue, he attempted to steal the battery, which is valued $70,000.
The Court heard that at approximately 09:30 hrs he was seen by a security guard, making his way over a fence. An alarm was raised after he was seen attempting to remove the battery of motor vehicle GLL 1985. Subsequently, he was taken to the Ruimveldt Police station.
Police Prosecutor, Simone Payne opposed to the pretrial liberty of the father of two, based on the seriousness and prevalence of the offence.
However, the prosecution’s objection was overruled by Magistrate Azore and the matter was transferred before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, for June 17.
