[www.inewsguyana.com] – Half Mile Bulls created the biggest upset over the weekend by defeating Retrieve Raiders over the weekend to reach the semifinal of the Victory Valley Royals (VVR) knockout basketball tournament being held at the Mackenzie hard Court in Linden.
On Saturday evening with the Retrieve Raiders missing their star forward Dwayne Roberts after he was suspended by the Guyana Amateur Basketball Federation (GABF), the Bulls were able to pull off a 63-62 win.
The Bulls attacked the paint from the get go especially since the inside presence of Roberts was missing to gain an early advantage and held onto despite some short bursts of energy by the Raiders.
Terron Welch scored a game high 23 points while Kevin Easton had 11 and Travin Dryden 10 points.
In the earlier game on Saturday, the Kashif and Shangai Kings routed Blueberry Hill 70-33 to coast their way to the semifinals.
Steve Neils Jr was lights out from beyond the arc, sinking six three pointers on his way to game high 23 points while teammate Quincy Easton dropped 23 points as well. Eon Reddock also supported with 12 points.
Meanwhile on Friday, host Victory Valley Royals was able to hold off Block 22 Flames with a 53-44 win that got the night’s activity rolling.
In the fourth quarter, VVR pulled away to win the game behind 19 points by Orlando Glasgow and 10 points from Chris Williams. Selwyn Henry and Shane Carmichael netted 17 and 15 points respectively in the loss for Block 22 Flames.
The final game on Friday saw the Amelia Ward Jets defeating the Falcons with a game high 17 points from Allister Webster while guard Amaniniki Archibald had 16 points in the game as well.
The Half Mile Bulls will now play the Kashif and Shangai Kings in the first semifinal on this Friday while the Amelia Ward Jets will take on host Victory Valley Royals.
