[www.inewsguyana.com] – Former Guyana Defence Force Soldier, 49 – year – old Rawle Glasgow of Enterprise Railway Embankment, East Coast Demerara was today charged with the offences of Attempted Murder, Attempt to Committ a Felony and setting fire to a dwelling house.
He appeared at the Vigilance Magistrate’s Court and pleaded not guilty to the charges before being remanded to prison.
Glasgow is accused of setting his house on fire on August 11 with his family inside, after which he went into hiding, where he consumed a poisonous substance. He was subsequently caught and taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he was immediately place under guard.
Prior to setting the home ablaze, the man also allegedly threatened to kill his family. Reports indicate that Glasgow became enraged when he returned home and saw his wife with a doll with needles sticking out of it, something that is widely considered by many as a witchcraft or voodoo practice. He lived at the home with his wife, three children and mother.
