A farmer of Essequibo Coast, Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam) is the country’s latest road fatality after he was struck and killed at Evergreen Village.
Dead is Lorence Tangs, 53, of Charity. Reports reaching INews stated that the accident occurred at 21:00hrs on Sunday.
INews was told that Gavinendra Lall, the driver who struck the farmer, in his statement to Police said he was heading North on the western half of the Evergreen Village Public Road with his father in their motorcar, which bears licence plate PSS 9926, when another vehicle was approaching from the opposite direction with its high beams on.
Lall, age 20, said the bright light blinded him, causing the young driver to hit the farmer.
Reports further indicate that Lall transported the injured man to the Charity Oscar Joseph Hospital, and Tangs was later transferred to the Suddie Public Hospital.
However at about 22:00hrs, Tangs succumbed to his injuries. The driver has since been taken into Police custody as investigations continue.
