[www.inewsguyana.com] – Anil Singh, a businessman of the Anna Regina Municipal market in Essequibo, has suffered some $3M in losses after thieves broke into his shop on Sunday, June 07 and stole a quantity of cell phones, computers and other electronic devices.
Singh, of Lima Village, said he secured his stall before leaving the market on Saturday afternoon, only to be informed that someone had broken into it and removed all of his items.
His security cameras managed to capture the perpetrators who partially hid their faces while committing the burglary. According to the businessman, the thieves ripped the boards from the back of the stall in an effort to gain entry although there were two guards on duty at the market.
Town Clerk of the Anna Regina Town Council, Diana Critchlow said the council is slated to hold a meeting, aimed at addressing the issue. She explained that although the stall was broken into during the shift of the two guards it was not discovered until the 7:00 hrs by the guard who came to relieve his colleagues.
As such, the Town Clerk noted that the entire security system will be reviewed. Councillor of the IMC, Rajendra Prabhulall has made several calls at council statutory meetings for a private security firm to be hired for the protection of the markets and council properties. He said the Town constabulary is not functioning as it should.
