[www.inewsguyana.com] – ESPN, the rights holder for the ICC Cricket World Cup, will allow state-owned NCN to air the major matches during the ICC Cricket World Cup tournament.
A statement from E – Networks noted that this decision was made following a direct request from President Donald Ramotar, who noted that the majority of Guyanese should be allowed to enjoy and partake in this major series.
“ESPN traditionally only allows coverage of its content to cable subscribers through its only locally authorized partner in Guyana: E-Networks Inc. E-Networks will provide NCN with a live feed of the matches, starting Saturday, February 14, waiving its rights to exclusivity for the matches in the Guyanese territory,” the statement noted.
ESPN has also requested as part of this effort, governmental support in its fight against piracy in the local market.
According to the statement, “ESPN has been fighting local piracy of its ESPN and Disney feeds against Atlantic Cable Network and Moviestar, which have been repeatedly warned to desist from pirating ESPN signals, which they include as part of their commercial cable services.”
