[www.inewsguyana.com] – A 29 –year – old man of Hadfield Street, Georgetown, charged with escaping from the Providence Police station lock-up on Sunday night (May 25) was today sentenced to serve 12 months imprisonment.
Before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, Lennox Cort pleaded guilty to the offence. He was in custody following an report of assault.
Police Prosecutor, Bharat Mangru said that on the day in question, the defendant assaulted his girlfriend and when his cousin Devon Pile, intervened in the matter, the accused armed himself with a piece of wood and lashed the victim to his head.
Pile was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital and the matter was reported to the Police.
