A 25-year-old labourer is now in the custody of the Police after he reportedly set alight a Enmore, East Coast Demerara (ECD) home belonging to his father.
According to reports received, the owner of the Lot 351 Hope, Enmore House, Balwant Singh is renting the upper flat of the property to a woman, Kendra Petrie.
At around 07:00h on September 26, the woman secured the section of the two storey house which she occupied and proceeded to her relatives.
On Tuesday the woman sent her daughter to collect utensils from the house.
At around 21:15h however the woman received a call from a neighbour informing her that the house was on fire.
When she reported to the scene, the entire house at that time was engulfed in flames.
The fire service was called in, however by that time the house was completely razed.
The arson suspect was picked up by police after he was seen leaving the area on foot proceeding to Foulis, ECD.
He was living in one of the two apartments on the lower flat of the building.
It is also being reported that he attempted to commit the said act recently but was released after his father refused to give a statement against him.
