Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding a fire of unknown origin which ripped through an Enmore, East Coast Demerara (ECD) home on Wednesday evening.
Based on information received, at the time of the fire, the house located at Lot 184 Brezzie, Enmore, ECD, was unoccupied, as the owner- identified as Rampearie Gunpat, 82- resides abroad.
INews understands that the fire began at about 21:15h.
Investigators have disclosed that a southern neighbour of a one storey wooden and concrete house reported that he was cooking when he received a call from another neighbour, who informed him that there was a fire nearby.
He alleged that upon inspection, he observed that the affected house was engulfed in flames.
As such, he immediately alerted the Guyana Fire Service, resulting in fire fighters arriving at the scene a short while later. However, by then, the building had been almost completely destroyed.
This online publication understands that the affected house has been unoccupied for more than one year and has had no electricity for that period.
The estimated damages caused by the fire are not yet certain.
The owner of the home has not yet been notified.
