[www.inewsguyana.com] – Twenty – eight – year – old Kareem Lovell, an Electrician ofDavid Street, Kitty, Georgetown, was remanded to prison today by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine – Beharry on charges of armed robbery and unlawful possession of firearm and ammunition.
Lovell pleaded not guilty to the three charges, one of which alleged that on October 21 at Garnett Street, Kitty, Georgetown, being armed with a gun he robbed Kera Peters of one Samsung Galaxy Tablet 2 valued $160,000.
It is also alleged that on the same day, he had in his possession 8 live rounds of .38 ammunition and a pistol when he is not the holder of such a license.
The Court heard that both the defendant and the victim were traveling in a minibus at around 08:30 hrs, when the bus made a stop in front of St. Winifred Primary School.
As Lovell exited the vehicle, he allegedly whipped out a firearm and took away the complainant’s Tablet and escaped. The Court heard that the minibus driver knows the accused and took the police to his Kitty house where the gun and Tablet were found.
Police Prosecutor Michael Grant opposed bail on the grounds of the nature, gravity and prevalence of the offence.
Lovell reminded the Court that he was charged with fraud committed at Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) which was later dismissed against him.
He will return to Court on November 14.
