[www.inewsguyana.com] – Executive members of the Electoral Assistance Bureau (EAB) recently engaged the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) to outline the EAB’s plans for observing the May 11 General and Regional Elections, as well as to obtain the co-operation of GECOM in certain aspects of their elections observatory work.
GECOM’s Chairman Dr. Steve Surujbally indicated to the EAB that GECOM is willing to provide assistance to the Bureau insofar as it relates to the sharing of non-sensitive information it may require to aid its work.
GECOM in a media statement noted that the Chairman also encouraged the EAB to utilize the comprehensive principles and guidelines outlined in the Manual of Standards for Elections Observer and Accompaniment Missions crafted by GECOM, as a guide to further assist them as they set about their observer mission.
GECOM plans to share the Official Manual for Presiding Officers and Other Polling Day Officials (2015) with the EAB to assist them in their training exercises.
According to GECOM, the EAB agreed in principle to remain in contact with the commission and also to conduct their observer mission in line with GECOM’s established principles and guidelines.
Representing the EAB was Mr. Dimitri Nicholson, EAB Project Manager, Mr. David Yann and Mr. Clairmont Lye – EAB Consultant.
