A 65-year-old woman tragically lost her life earlier today after a Police motor vehicle crashed into her as she was walking along the Vreed-en-Hoop public road on the West Coast of Demerara (WCD).
The incident occurred around noon on Tuesday as Annmarie Deonarine of Lot 144 New Road, Vreed-en-Hoop, WCD was struck down a short distance from her home.
The Police vehicle, PRR 4446, was at the time being driven by an Assistant Superintendent of Police attached to the Leonora Police Station on the West Coast of Demerara.
Unconfirmed reports suggest that the officer was under the influence of alcohol. However, in a release issued, it was stated that after the Traffic Chief subjected the officer to a breathalyzer test “no trace of blood alcohol was recorded.”
The elderly woman reportedly suffered head injuries, along with a broken leg and arm. She was subsequently pronounced dead at the West Demerara Regional Hospital located at Best Village.
Annmarie was a widow and a mother of three.
Meanwhile, INews was informed by the Police that the Assistant Superintendent has been relieved of his duties, while investigations are ongoing. (Ramona Luthi)
Did anyone know if the assistant superintendent blow into the breathalyzer or it’s just a cover up
I know this grandmother, mother and a friend to our our family. I am deeply hurt to see another life been lost on the road ways of Guyana. My sympathy to the family for your lost, may her soul rest in peace.
