President David Granger
Eid-ul-Fitr 2018
I extend greetings to all Guyanese and especially to our Muslim community on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr.
Eid-ul-Fitr marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan, a period during which Muslims perform acts of abstinence and prayer. Eid-ul-Fitr reaffirms the values of perseverance and self-denial practiced during the holy month. It reminds us that our sacrifices yield personal and spiritual benefits.
Eid-ul-Fitr is time for coming together, an occasion for us to show compassion and kindness towards our fellow citizens. Eid-ul-Fitr, in this regard, strengthens the human ties within our society. It promotes care and consideration towards each other.
Eid-ul-Fitr is a time for family gatherings and friendly reunions, emphasizing the unity of family and the promotion of harmonious relations.
May the values of Eid-ul-Fitr continue to guide our efforts as we seek to build a nation of happy people, happy families and happy communities!
A Message from the PPP on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr
The People’s Progressive Party (PPP) wishes to extend to the Muslim community, both at home and overseas, Eid Mubarak on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr.
This auspicious occasion marks the end of the Holy Month of Ramadan during which tremendous sacrifices were made for spiritual advancement by Muslims.
All of our religious observances have universal lessons for all mankind. As customary on these occasions, our Party urges reflection on the pertinent messages this occasion brings and which have positive influences for humanity.
The dedication and self-discipline demonstrated especially during the month of Ramadan are exemplary teaching humility, contentment, restraint and love for mankind. The Zakat or charity associated with Eid-ul-Fitr is another example of Muslims here in Guyana and across the world contributing to the upliftment of all and for the removal of societal barriers.
The PPP would like to take this opportunity to commend all those who would have made the sacrifices as prescribed during the month of Ramadan and to draw from the rich virtues of this occasion and to reiterate that sacrifices bring success and that hope is alive and must never be lost.
Once again, the Party extends greetings to all, especially our Muslim brothers and sisters on this occasion.
Eid Mubarak!
People’s Progressive Party
GAWU’s Eid–ul–Fitr message
The Guyana Agricultural and General Workers Union (GAWU) wishes to extend warm greetings to our Muslim brothers and sisters and indeed all Guyanese as we once again celebrate Eid–ul–Fitr. Eid ul Fitr signifies the ending of the period of Ramadan, a period dedicated to fasting. But we are aware that Eid–ul–Fitr is not only about fasting but it’s a time for love, perseverance, kindness, forgiveness and tolerance. These qualities are the essence of Islam. While the period of Ramadan is a time of worship, reflection and meditation, Eid is a time of celebration to mark the conclusion of the holy month and it is also a time to rejuvenate bonds of kinship, friendship, peace and demonstrate tolerance and love.
Those values that come to the fore in such times remind us in a timely way of our humanity and what are necessary in our continuing quest for social justice apart from underlining the variety of religions that make up our nation and which add to our cultural richness.
So let this celebratory occasion provide us all with an opportunity to stretch our hands out to each other as we pursue enduring harmony in our relationships. Let us transcend our differences and disagreements and reach out to one another with a new spirit of peace, and tolerance.
May the spirit of Eid inspire us all to renew our determination to support and promote the cause of peace worldwide. May Allah shower his blessings on mankind and guide peoples globally onto a path that would lead to a world where tolerance, empathy, and general betterment prevail.
IAC’s Eid-Ul-Fitr Message
The Indian Action Committee (IAC) is pleased to join with all Guyanese in extending Eid Mubarak to the Muslim Community.
The IAC recognizes that Eid-Ul-Fitr marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan in which adherents of Islam are required to exert extreme self-discipline and enhance their compassion for others and, therefore, it is important currently to reflect on these moral values emphasized during this auspicious period.
The IAC commends all those Muslims who gathered to pray and break fast at their Masjids over the past month thus, strengthening their commitment to their faith and their covenant with their Creator.
The IAC also recognizes and is saddened by the continued oppression, brutalization and killings of tens of thousands of believers of Islam around the world in 2018 especially in Palestine.
The IAC, which has always had Muslims in its membership, remains ready to work in partnership with the Muslim community in such works that conform with the three foci of the organization: educational, cultural, social work.
The IAC calls upon all Guyanese to re-establish lost family values, improve communal relationships and promote peace amongst the citizens of this country.
Eid Mubarak from the IAC
