A Kitty, Georgetown businessman was on Tuesday afternoon ambushed by a lone gunman while plying his trade at the East La Penitence market in Georgetown and robbed of over half a million dollars in cash and valuables.
The victim has been identified as 60-year-old Cyril Belcaram.
Based on information received, the incident occurred at about 13:30h.
Belcaram, who is a vendor, was reportedly sitting in a chair inside of his stall at the East La Penitence market when he heard the voice of a man standing behind him, demanding that he be quiet and hand over “everything.”
The sexagenarian recalled that upon turning around, he observed a gun being pointed at him by an unmasked man.
Fearing for his life, the businessman immediately handed over a gold chain valued at $120,000, a gold ring valued at $90,000, a Gold Samsung Galaxy S8 cellular phone valued at $190,000 and $330,000 in cash.
This publication was informed that the bandit then fled the scene on a black CG motorcycle.
A report was made to the police who are currently investigating the robbery.
