[www.inewsguyana.com] – The Council of Management of the Electoral Assistance Bureau (EAB) has finalised arrangements for the commencement of its 2015 Elections Monitoring and Observation Exercise in Guyana.
Due to the lack of time and limited resources, the EAB programme for the upcoming National and Regional Elections will be restricted to conducting a limited test of the Revised List of Electors (RLE) and observing the balloting process on Elections Day, 11th May 2015.
Given the limited time available, EAB will need the support of the two main contesting groups, and the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM), for this test to be done quickly and with quality.
EAB therefore, inviting persons, who are committed to strengthening democracy, to volunteer to join its 2015 elections observer exercise.
“Civic minded Guyanese, 18 years and older, who are neither activists nor candidates for any political party are invited to become impartial, objective observers in polling stations at which they are registered to vote,” the statement noted.
The Bureau in a media statement noted that Dmitri Nicholson has been appointed Project Director for EAB’s 2015 programme.
It was noted that Nicholson brings his considerable experience working in the NGO Sector in Guyana, especially in youth development.
Former EAB Project Directors Clairmont Lye and Lawrence Lachmansingh have volunteered their time and resources to coordinate the implementation of the list test. Troy Thomas, a professional statistician, has agreed to provide his services free of cost.
