[www.inewsguyana.com] – Two men were remanded to prison on Monday, February 09 for allegedly robbing a woman of over $300,000 worth in jewellery.
The police alleged that William Evans and Tambico McKenzie robbed Merissa Winter of a gold chain, one gold and diamond ring, three gold bands and an Apple iPhone, which in total amounts to $370,000.
Before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, the duo pleaded not guilty to the charge, which occurred on February 06, at Caneview, South Ruimveldt Park.
Police Prosecutor, Michael Grant said the duo used a knife in the commission of the crime. The two men were subsequently caught and the articles were found in their possession, the Court heard.
The three gold bands were found on McKenzie while the other items were recovered from Evans. McKenzie and Evans told the Court that they were beaten by the police.
Bail was still refused and the duo is scheduled to reappear in Court on February20.
