Two men are being treated at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPHC) following a brawl at a shop in Mahaicony, East Coast Demerara, late last night.
Reports indicate that at approximately 23:00hrs, the two men identified as Gavin Jackson of Cottage, Mahaicony, ECD and Matthew Pistano of 111 Miles Mahdi and Princess Street, Georgetown were drinking at a shop in Airy Hall, Mahaicony, East Coast Demerara.
An argument subsequently broke out and Pistano left and returned with a handgun.
The duo began to fight on the public road, and Pistano fired a round from his hand gun into the air. Jackson responded by stabbing him in the abdomen with a sharp object, and Pistano then retaliated by biting the tip of Jackson’s nose off.
During the altercation, the fire arm was dropped at the scene and a public spirited person retrieved it and handed it over to the police.
32-year-old Pistano was taken to the Mahaicony Police station where five additional live rounds were found on him.
He was subsequently escorted to the GPHC along with 30-year-old Jackson to be treated. They were both admitted under Police guard.
Investigations are ongoing.
