[www.inewsguyana.com] – Amrita Persaud, a self employed woman of Campbellville, and 42- year – old Gavin Williams of Gordon Street, Kitty, were both charged separately with the offence of trafficking marijuana.
Bail was refused and they were remanded to prison by Magistrate Fabayo Azore. They pleaded not guilty to the charge, which alleged that on Friday, February 21 at Campbellville, they had 4.566 kg of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking.
Customs Anti Narcotics Unit (CANU) Prosecutor, Oswald Massiah told the Court that the two know each other. CANU officers acting on information visited Persaud’s home and identified themselves. The Court heard that she went to her bedroom and brought out a bag containing the prohibited substance and told the CANU officers, “I know what you came for,” and gave them the bag.
Attorney- at – Law, Neil Boston represented Persaud, applied for bail and told the Court that his client operates an internet café business.
As it relates to Williams, the Prosecutor said he delivered the illegal substance to Persaud’s house so that she could sell it. He was arrested and first denied the allegation but later assisted CANU with further investigations. The man claimed he was given the substance by someone who occupies a home in South Ruimveldt.
He was represented by Attorney – at – Law, Granville, who told the Court that he is a father of of six with no prior conviction. The will reappear in Court on March 19.
