[www.inewsguyana.com] – Two men accused of possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, along with conspiracy to traffic the alleged drugs, appeared before Magistrate Judy Latchman and were remanded to prison.
It is alleged that 35 – year – old Dwayne Adams, a Carpenter of Worthmanville, Georgetown and 44 – year – old Herbert Smith of Lot 3464 North Ruimveldt, Georgetown, who is a Taxi Driver and father of four, on November 13, 2015 at Alpha Hotel, East Coast Demerara had in their possession 848 grams of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.
It is also alleged that on November 13, 2015, Adams conspired with Smith to traffic the cocaine out of Guyana. They both pleaded not guilty to the offenses.
The Attorney for both defendants, Peter Hugh, in his bail application noted that the Prosecution will find it difficult to prove a case of conspiracy against the two accused.
However, the Prosecution revealed that Adams, under a caution statement, told the police he was in possession of the alleged narcotics and revealed that he had swallowed some 25 pellets containing cocaine.
The Prosecution further explained both men were found together in the same room with the drugs.
Bail was denied and they are scheduled to make their next court appearance on December 07 before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan.
I do hope that the people of guyana work on partnership with the new government to stamp out crime in all form from our wonderful land.
