The drivers held for the Ruby accident, that resulted in the death of Shurman Daniels, 44, of Kamwatta Mission, North West District, appeared at the Vreed-en-Hoop Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.
Kimberly Pearson, 21, of Section ‘C’ Block ‘Y’ Grove, East Bank Demerara (EBD) and driver of PWW 6657 was charged with; driving under the influence of alcohol, being an unlicenced driver, having an uncertified motor vehicle and an uninsured motor vehicle.
Sherwin Joseph, 28, of Hyde Park, East Bank Essequibo (EBE) and driver of PRR 459 was charged with; driving under the influence of alcohol and uninsured, with an unlicenced and uncertified motor vehicle.
They both pleaded guilty to the outlined charges and Pearson was fined a total of $77,500, while Joseph was also fined a total of $65,000.
According to the police, the duo were released “on Station bail in respect of the accident since the case file is being compiled and sent for legal advice later this week.”
On July 14, 2018, Daniels, a pedestrian, died after being hit by the two vehicles on the Ruby Public Road, EBE.
On the day of the incident, motorcar PRR 459 was proceeding west along the southern carriageway when it struck the pedestrian who was allegedly walking in the center of the road.
Immediately after, the other vehicle, PWW 6353, which was also proceeding in the same direction, collided with the pedestrian.
Daniels was rushed to the the Leonora Cottage Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
