A search is presently ongoing for the driver of a silver/grey motor vehicle bearing licence plates PTT 7447, who reportedly committed a “hit and run” on a police constable on Monday afternoon while in the vicinity of Regent and King Streets, Georgetown.
The injured constable has been identified as Dominique Johnson who is attached to the Brickdam Police Station’s traffic department.
Based on police information, the incident occurred at about 12:00hrs.
According to Johnson, at the time mentioned, he was performing traffic duties in uniform at the intersection while the implicated vehicle was proceeding north on the western side of King street.
The said vehicle was reportedly directed to stop by the Constable and as such, it did.
However, as the rank was in the process of walking towards the motorcar, the driver allegedly drove off at a fast rate of speed, hitting Johnson, who reportedly fell onto the bonnet of the car.
At that time, the driver then continued in a northern direction of the Street with Johnson still on the bonnet, and turned west on to North Road, causing the constable to fall onto the northern parapet of the road.
The vehicle then drove away.
INews understands that the rank, who sustained visible injuries about his body, was picked up by public spirited persons in a conscious state and rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation where he was treated for his injuries and subsequently discharged.
This online publication was also informed that the information regarding the owner and driver of the implicated vehicle was gathered from the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) and an arrest is expected to be made soon.
