(www.inewsguyana.com) – A taxi driver is said to be in a serious condition after the car he was driving slammed into a bridge on the railway embankment early Friday morning, December 13.
Eyewitnesses said that the man alone was in the vehicle at the time of the accident. The eyewitness that spoke to iNews related that the car was proceeding east along the embankment when it attempted to overtake another vehicle.
The man could not say when or how the car slammed into the bridge since according to him, it all happened so fast. He also could not confirm if the driver appeared to be under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash.
When iNews visited the scene this morning at Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara, the entire front left side of the car was damaged.
The railing of the bridge was situated in the entire front seat of the car which indicated that the driver was pinned for some time in the vehicle. Persons reportedly shattered the back window of the car to free the man.
The air bags were activated and the immediate area of the crash site was littered with shattered glass, music discs and other objects from within the car. (Leroy Smith).
