[www.inewsguyana.com] – Twenty – six – year – old Dhanram Ramdeo Ramlall was granted $1 million bail for the offense of dangerous driving, which resulted in the death of his 22-year – wife, Gangadai Persaud.
The Vendor appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Judy Latchman on Thursday, November 12, 2015 where he pleaded not guilty to the offense, which occurred on November 08 at the Demerara Harbour Bridge.
His lawyer applied for bail, informing the court that Ramlall wishes to attend his wife’s funeral and to care for their 9-month-old baby. According to the defense, the couple was heading to the Plaisance Market to ply their trade when Ramlall lost control of the canter truck he was driving and slid off the bridge.
The Court heard that the rain and the wet nature of the bridge contributed to the accident. The Prosecution however informed the Court that Ramlall was driving at a fast rate when he suddenly applied brakes and lost control of the vehicle.
According to the Prosecution, Ramlall allegedly admitted that he was driving at 40KMH while the speed on the bridge is far below that. Other reports indicate that the accused attempted to turn around on the bridge to retrieve some vegetables that fell off the truck when the accident occurred.
Bail was granted and he will return to Court on November 30.
