Mayor Hamilton Green’s efforts to prevent Town Clerk Carol Sooba from entering city hall and her office failed today, Thursday August 8.
Sooba, in the protection of the Guyana Police Force and City Constabularies showed up for work today as vendors and APNU supporters were again protesting outside the compound.
The Mayor decided to venture to the entrance of the compound to engage the protestors and was told by the Deputy Chief Constable (DCC) that he [DCC] cannot give access to the protestors to enter the compound.
Green was told that any interaction with the protestors would have to be done outside of the gates.
Mayor Green at a press conference earlier in the day stated that he will continue to block the Acting Town Clerk physically from accessing her office at City Hall.
In the same breath, he also said that she is breaking the city laws by not working from her office at City Hall but from a temporary location.
Sooba had for the past two days worked at another location, given the protest and planned blockage for her at City hall.
