Dr. Riyad Insanally is Guyana’s Permanent Representative to the Organisation of American States (OAS). He presented his Letters of Credence on September 30 to OAS Secretary General Luis Almargo at the OAS Headquarters in Washington DC, USA.
The career diplomat reaffirmed Guyana’s commitment “to upholding the principals established by the OAS Charter fully cognisant of the virtuous circle we’re all seeking to close – that of democracy, human rights multi-dimensional security and integral development.”
Dr Riyad Insanally was appointed as the Permanent Representative to the OAS earlier this year. He previously served as the OAS representative in Trinidad and Tobago and was also an advisor to the previous OAS Assistant Secretary General.
On September 16, 2016, Dr. Insanally presented his Letters of Credence as Guyana’s Ambassador to the United States of America, to President Barack Obama.
Ambassador Insanally began his diplomatic career in 1990 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as a Senior Foreign Officer. Dr Insanally also served as Senior Trade Advisor at the Guyana High Commissioner in the United Kingdom, consultant at CARICOM and other international agencies. The Guyanese scholar is also the holder of a PhD in languages from Harvard University.
Meanwhile, SG Almargo told Dr. Insanally that his experience makes him invaluable to the OAS. “You’re very well prepared for this post and your help will be extremely invaluable,” Almargo said at the simple presentation ceremony.
