Public Infrastructure Minister David Patterson has indicated that works continued on the Demerara Harbour Bridge (DHB) up to 1:00h this morning and resumed again at 7:00h with the hope of reopening the facility to accommodate light traffic.
The minster is optimistic that by 18:00h, car and other light vehicles can traverse the bridge. Nevertheless, he stated that enhanced water taxis services will remain operations for the rest of the day.
On this note, he thanked the citizens for their patience and support at this time. However, as the DHB remains closed, hundreds of commuters were seen using the water taxis to Georgetown from the Vreed-En-Hoop Stelling.
These include workers and school children. Some persons were also seen walking across the bridge as a mean of getting to either side due to the fear of the water.
