The reputed wife of convicted “drug lord” Barry Dataram is once again in the hot seat after she was arrested for attempting to smuggle in cigarettes to the Mazaruni Prison, where Dataram is presently serving time for cocaine trafficking.
The twenty-one year-old woman, Anjanie Boodnarine, was reportedly in the process of attempting to sneak in a quantity of cigarettes and chocolate into the penitentiary earlier today, when she was caught by prison officials during a mandatory check on the contents that were being taken into prison.
The matter was confirmed by police officials, and Boodnarine is presently being interrogated. The items were confiscated and will be inspected to determine if they were laced with any illegal substance.
Just last year, Boodnarine along with her husband, Barry Dataram were both charged for possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking. She had however, absconded with Dataram to Suriname mere days before the Magistrate made a ruling.
Nevertheless, the duo were re-arrested, and extradited to Guyana where they were slapped with additional charges.
Boodnarine, however, was freed of the charges, while Dataram was sentenced to five years for cocaine possession with an additional 48-months for forgery.
