Tragedy struck the Fiji Islands last weekend when the southern hemisphere’s worst cyclone (Winston) recorded in history, hit the islands resulting in massive destruction to many properties and a number of people losing their lives.
In light of this, telecommunications giant, Digicel has issued a call for its customers across the Caribbean to join the company in offering support for those affected in Fiji by Cyclone Winston through participation in its #TogetherforFiji text donation line, which Digicel has launched.
It must be reminded that with winds of over 300 kilometres, the Category Five cyclone caused unprecedented destruction nationwide. The funds raised by the campaign will go towards helping in relief and recovery efforts.
According to Digicel, the company is using its social media pages to encourage customers throughout the Region to ‘come together for Fiji’ and show their support for their wider Pacific family with a donation.
Customers across the Caribbean and Central America can instantly donate, and for Guyanese customers, donations can be made by texting the word “donate” to 1155 with each text costing GYD $200.
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Digicel Asia Pacific, Michael Murphy stated that the scale of the devastation in Fiji is significant and there is a real need for assistance and funding now to help Fijians get back on their feet as soon as possible.
