Police say they are investigating a fatal accident which occurred at about 07:30hrs on Tuesday morning on the Skeldon Public Road, Corentyne, Berbice that resulted in the death of pedal cyclist Yatandeo Hiralall, 59, of Lot 7 Line Path, Skeldon.
According to the police, investigations revealed that the cyclist was proceeding north along the western side of the road when he was struck down from the rear by motor lorry GKK 7698, which was in the process of overtaking.
He was picked up in a semi-conscious state and rushed to the Skeldon Hospital where he died about 11:00hrs while receiving treatment.
The 76-year-old driver, of Rampoor Village, Corentyne is in custody assisting with the investigation.
His blood alcohol level was tested and found to be zero percent.
