An East Bank Essequibo teen has become the latest road fatality after he reportedly collided with a road construction vehicle in the vicinity of Vergenoegen, East Bank Essequibo, on Thursday afternoon.
The dead teenager has been identified as Ricardo Edwards, 17, of Vergenoegen Sideline Dam, East Bank Essequibo.
Based on reports received, the young man was riding his pedal cycle and crashed into the heavy-duty construction vehicle which reportedly made a sudden turn on the roadway. As a result of the collision, the teenager fell on the roadway and sustained severe head injuries.
He was picked up and rushed to the Leonora Cottage Hospital in an unconscious state by public spirited persons but later succumbed to his injuries.
The operator of the vehicle was taken into police custody as they continue their investigations.
