A Cuban national, identified as 61-year-old Maria Puig of 25 Laluni Street, Queenstown, Georgetown was injured during a foiled robbery on her business, in front of Satam Variety Store, earlier today.
According to eyewitnesses who spoke to INews, two gunmen rode up on A CG motorcycle and proceeded to demand cash from the Cuban vendor.
City Constabulary Officers who were nearby at the time, were alerted and quickly rushed to the woman’s assistance. However, before fleeing, one of the bandits fired a shot in the woman’s direction, hitting her on the right arm.
Puig was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital where she was treated and subsequently discharged.
Reports indicate that the woman would usually ply her trade in the area, selling coffee and other food items.
Meanwhile, the owner of Satam Variety store who identified himself as “Navin” told INews that this ordeal has left him stunned since it is the first time in five years of operating his business that an incident of this nature has occurred.
Police have launched an investigation into the matter.
