Retired Major General, Joe Singh

[www.inewsguyana.com] – Former head of the Guyana Defense Force and well respected, Retired Major General, Joe Singh says the gunning down of political activist, Courtney Crum – Ewing was a calculated act of cold blooded murder of a son, sibling and father of three.

Singh told mourners at Crum – Ewing’s funeral on Wednesday, March 18 that “The murderers and intellectual authors obviously have no respect for freedom of expression or respect for human life.”

He noted that Crum – Ewing had his political preference which was his democratic right and those who killed him on March 10 did not have the courage to face him.

Mr. Singh further went on to state that it would be naive of anyone not to perceive that the killing of Crum – Ewing was not somehow linked to his protest activities and his public advocacy in Carmichael Street, Georgetown.

“What makes Courtney Crum – Ewing murder a cause for concern was here it was an unarmed man carrying out a one man advocacy program peacefully as a follow up to his peacefully conducted one man protest in Carmichael Street which resulted in media coverage not only of his protest and the nature of his protest but because of other incidents which reportedly took place in the compound of the government official who was the object of his protest,” Singh stated.

He pointed out the days that have elapsed and the fact that there have been no real suspects held for his murder, as he noted that the nation is waiting the interdiction of those who carried out the act.

Singh acknowledged the fact that the political parties have called for calm and to allow the police to do its’ job but was quick to point out that there were cases where persons were killed under questionable circumstances and the trials have gone cold.
